Sony’s Vaio P netbook, or what Sony calls notebook, is official. Full name Sony Vaio P Lifestyle Series PC, the netbook is about as thin as a cellphone and weighs in at 1.4 pounds making it the lightest in its size category. The Vaio P fits 1600 x 768 pixels into its 8 inch, LED-backlit, touchscreen display.
Running on Windows Vista, the Vaio P features WWAN 3G mobile broadband (with Verizon Wireless), 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and built-in GPS that doesn’t require a wireless connection in the United States or Canada.
The Vaio P goes a little beyond the typical netbook features with its multimedia playback capabilities. It has an instant-mode option that automatically boots into Xross Media Bar interface, from which you can play music, movies, and view pictures. Oh, and access the web. A built-in webcam is also included.
Sony’s Vaio P netbook will be up for pre-order tomorrow for $900 with a bunch of color options including garnet red, emerald green, onyx black, crystal white, and classic black. Expect them to hit Sony stores at the end of January and all major retailers at the beginning of February.
